Studying in Granada

Hello everyone, I’m Alice and last summer I chose to spend my year abroad in two different countries as I’m studying BA Modern Languages, Translation and Interpreting in Spanish and German.

Last September I went to Spain where I spent six months studying at Granada University (September-February). I chose the option of studying abroad, rather than working, because I wanted to expand my knowledge regarding the domain of translation and interpreting, improve my skills and learn about different ways of studying my degree in different countries. This was really interesting and I’ve learnt new things and methods that I didn’t study before. For example, other methods used to analyse a translation and cultural content that I don’t usually study in Swansea as part of my degree.

So my first semester was in Spain, in the region of Andalucía. Studying in Granada in the faculty of Translation and Interpreting was quite tough. In the first three months I couldn’t enjoy the city as much because I was working hard, but after Christmas, when I had finished my exams, I had time to do a lot more things, like visiting different cities, meeting new people and enjoying Granada, a beautiful city with a great mix of cultures. There you can do so many different activities such as hiking, shopping, sightseeing, socialising, sport, etc. In Granada you can enjoy typical city-life or immerse yourself in nature.

The experience that I had was great and I’ve enjoyed everything about it, the studies, the people I’ve met and everything else, but I think that what I’ve enjoyed the most was actually Granada, the actual city and its features such as its streets, the weather and its amazing viewpoints. Granada has many viewpoints where you can see amazing sunsets and stunning views of the city. You do have to walk for some time to reach them, but the effort is completely worth it!

In April I went to Germany, and I hope to enjoy this second semester as much as I enjoyed the first one in Spain.
