Y Pant Careers Fair
Swansea University launches a plurilingual day at Y Pant Comprehensive School.
Hundreds of pupils from years 8 to 13 enjoyed a vibrant day of languages, cultures, and communication at Y Pant Careers Fair on 25 October.
The well-attended fair was the first after-Covid event of this kind. The students were offered the opportunity to visit the many stalls, reflect on their acquired skills, current interests, and careers prospects.
Languages had a special place in yesterday’s event, and we are proud to say that they were the only Subject Area whose contribution extended to interactive workshop sessions and careers-focused seminars. Staff and students in Modern Languages, Translation, and Interpreting at Swansea University (Giovanna Donzelli, Christiane Guenther, Tanya May and Lauren Atkinson) engaged hundreds of GCSE, AS and A level students who visited our stimulating plurilingual rooms and shared their curiosity in knowing more about the languages and cultures of the world.
The young people we had the privilege to meet yesterday have a desire to expand their horizons, build friendships and bridges between cultures and across national borders. They want to acquire the language skills to travel and widen their career prospects.
Let’s make Languages a possible option of all career pathways; let’s continue to offer our young people the opportunity to engage with languages and language learning in any direction that they want to go!
