Research and Innovation Awards, 2024

On Friday 21st of June 2024, colleagues from Modern Languages Translation and Interpreting attended Swansea University's biennial Research and Innovation Awards after Dr Maria Fernandez-Parra (Translation) and Dr James R Turner (Spanish & Translation) were successfully shortlisted for awards in the 'Outstanding Research Supervision' and 'Research and Innovation Rising Star' categories respectively. 

Accompanied by colleagues, Dr Federico Lopez-Terra (Spanish), Dr Rocio Perez-Tattam (Spanish & Head of Department), and Dr Jun Yang (Chinese & Translation), our staff enjoyed a black-tie gala dinner and reception at Swansea University's Great Hall on Bay Campus with shortlisted candidates from other subject areas. 

The awards ceremony was a high-profile event and included numerous sponsors. In particular, we would like to thank Symbiosis IP for sponsoring the award in 'Outstanding Research Supervision', and Rockfield Software Ltd. for sponsoring the award in the 'Research and Innovation Rising Star' category. 

Although neither of our colleagues won the award in their respective categories, it is a huge honour for both Maria and James to be shortlisted from over 100 nominees across the entire University not least as this demonstrates again the strength of research and research-informed teaching at Swansea University's Department for Modern Languages, Translation and Interpreting.
