Excellence in Learning and Teaching

Three academics from the Department of Modern Languages, Translation and Interpreting were recently nominated for Swansea University's Excellence in Learning and Teaching award. These student-initiated awards to recognise and celebrate excellent teaching and as such are highly respected across the University. Drs Herman (French), Lopez-Terra and May (both Spanish) were all recognised for the quality of their teaching and the strength of their relationships with students. As one student wrote, 'He makes learning exciting, engaging and interesting. He is very supportive and manages to give us individual attention, whilst connecting us as a group. He has been a big support for all of our class in the last difficult 4 years.'

Commenting on his nomination, Dr Herman said 'it's an honour to be recognised in this way by our students. And for a relatively small department such as Modern Languages to receive not one but three nominations underscores the quality of teaching which we provide, and the diligence with which we approach both the responsibility and the privilege of sharing a classroom with these young minds.'
